BVLGARI’s signature style emerged in the dolce vita era
Dolce Vita was a period of time in Italian history where a new social and cultural era was born. Women were treated as independent citizens, and the media and movie industry started presenting them as such. This was a time when feminism challenged the traditional notion of gender roles. As a result, women started to enter the workforce. They also began to challenge the idea that women should only act like men. The emergence of a women-centric cinema industry, as well as an increased interest in jewellery, gave Bulgari the opportunity to make its mark.
In the early years of the brand, Sotirios Voulgaris, the founder of the Bulgari family, made his way to Italy from the Epirus village of Paramythia. He married Aromanian Eleni Basio in 1888 and settled in Rome. Soon after, he opened his first store on via Sistina 85. It was here that his sons, Leonidas-Georgios and Paolo, spelled the name with a V.
A new generation of BVLGARI sons continued their father’s creative legacy. They also developed a special interest in gold, stones, and precious metals. During the 1970s, they expanded the brand into Europe and the United States. During this time, the store was a popular rendezvous for socialites, celebrities, and fashionistas. By the end of the decade, it had become a coveted place for film stars to meet.
The brand also started making watches. The BVLGARI BVLGARI watch, for example, was a distinctly unique creation. Designed with a round 39mm case, the watch featured a timelessly elegant dial and double engraving of the Bvlgari name on the bezel. Meanwhile, the sapphire caseback revealed a mechanical self-winding movement that had a 72-hour power reserve.
While the BVLGARI BVLGARI watch was a unique creation, its true merits came in its ability to bring to life the storied brand’s signature style. This was achieved by drawing inspiration from contemporary Rome, the city which inspired many of the motifs used in the brand’s iconic creations. For example, the BVLGARI BVLGARI ROMA watch was a sleek and sophisticated design that was a perfect fit for a woman who wants a timeless and stylish piece of wearable art.
Another item that demonstrated the BVLGARI’s creativity was its use of a remarkably crafted pendant. This particular design features a dazzling array of diamond accents and onyx panels. Although it took several years to create, the design was a worthy tribute to the Italian jeweler’s artistic legacy.
The Bulgari pendant is a classic example of the bold jewelry of the dolce vita era. A plethora of gemstones are incorporated into the design, including 44,60 carat cabochon emeralds, trapezoidal diamonds, and 22 round Ceylon sapphires. At the heart of the pendant is a black ceramic crown that strengthens the link between memory and imagination.
However, the most important point is that Bulgari’s use of the BVLGARI BVLGARI signet ring is a nod to the brand’s illustrious past. Not only did the BVLGARI BVLGARI necklace, bracelet, and earrings all feature the aforementioned baubles, but each design also encapsulated the best of the dolce vita era.
The dolce vita era’s signature style emerged in the dolce vita era
If you love dolce vita style, you may have seen some Bulgari jewelry. The company was founded in 1884 by Greek silversmith Sotirios Voulgaris. Early designs were inspired by Art Deco and included geometric designs and diamonds. In the 1960s, the brand began to attract celebrities such as Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
Dolce Vita jewelry is very different from other fashions. It is handmade, features a bold style and is made of excellent quality materials. These pieces are created using various materials, including gold, semi-precious stones and art glass. Each piece is unique, with different markings and materials.
One of the most iconic pieces of the dolce vita era is the Bulgari pendant. A statement geometric design paired with a large gemstone or a diamond set with a textured “crumpled gold” makes this a classic. This piece was worn in Luchino Visconti’s 1974 film Conversation Piece.
Another example of a bold dolce vita jewelry piece is the Serpenti bracelet. A long chain adorned with a large gemstone is encircled by a snake head. This bracelet has been sold to nearly forty countries worldwide and is now the brand’s best-selling piece.
Another dolce vita style element is the use of bright colored gemstones. Bulgari’s signature style includes a wide variety of colored gemstones. Typically, yellow gold and big colorful gemstones are used to create their pieces.
Some of the most memorable Dolce Vita jewelry pieces include the Bulgari pendant set with onyx panels. This piece is a favorite amongst collectors and is currently available at Bulgari.
Other Dolce Vita jewelry pieces feature an oval or heart shaped design, which is usually engraved. These designs can have two different labeling on the back. For example, the diamonds and the snake head can be oval or rectangle.
Many celebrities also wore BVLGARI jewelry. Elizabeth Taylor purchased a Serpenti watch in Rome in 1962. After his death, Marina B, the daughter of the family, started her own line. She has designed many pieces for Bulgari. Her designs attracted the attention of Sophia Loren, who is a fan.
The Dolce Vita era saw the introduction of a new generation of Italian designers. They aimed to reinterpret the fabled “Italian style” into modern cuts and shapes. The brand’s signature red was transformed into an alluring and sultry color. Gianni Versace’s 1997 murder confirmed the designer’s rock star status.
Although the dolce vita style of the 1950s and 1960s has waned, its enduring influence continues to be felt in today’s fashion world. Designers such as Gucci, Armani, and Dolce & Gabbana are all on the upswing. Like the dolce vita, these designers continue to produce jewelry that appeals to the contemporary woman.
The dolce vita style also brought a number of celebrities into the spotlight. In addition to the Bulgari brand, fashion-forward designers such as Gianni Agnelli, Anouk Aimee and Mastroianni have all been influenced by Italian culture and history. Having Italians in their circle of influence has made the Italian style one of the most popular in the world.
