Chaumet is a Parisian jeweler

For over 240 years, Chaumet has been a leader in the world of luxury jewelry. Founded in 1764 by Marie-Etienne Nitot, the company has been creating beautiful jewelry and accessories that have remained in vogue throughout the ages. Today, Chaumet’s high jewelry workshops and salons in Place Vendome are still operated by expert jewelers. They continue to create exquisite pieces of jewelry, including bracelets, earrings, tiaras, and watches.

The brand’s creations celebrate the bond between two people. This contemporary take on sentimental jewelry is made with a joyful palette of bold colours and lustrous gold. These diamonds sparkle and shine in the light.

It was founded by Marie-Etienne Nitot

Nitot began his career as an apprentice with his father, jeweler Ange-Joseph Aubert. He later went on to become the official jeweler for the Empress Josephine and served as a court jeweler to Napoleon I. Nitot rose to prominence during the Napoleonic era and was the most sought after jeweller in Europe. He was even appointed to design the crown and sword of Napoleon’s coronation.

Nitot was instrumental in the creation of many pieces that are still treasured today. The company’s Jeux de Liens collection celebrates the bond between two people. This collection offers a playful palette, bright colours, and lustrous gold and diamonds.

Nitot’s descendants continued to build on his tradition. Today, there are over 80 boutiques across Europe, the Middle East, Japan, and the Asia-Pacific region. Each piece is crafted by hand by skilled artisans.

Since 1977, Chaumet has continued to redefine its link motif. In the 1990s, the link became a cross, while in 2002, diamonds were added. The brand also introduced the “Premiers Liens” collection, which expresses design using yellow, white, and rose gold.

Marie-Etienne Nitot had the vision to build jewelry that would reflect royalty and power. She was able to produce pieces that were beautiful, but still had a strong message. Her designs became famous in Europe.

After Nitot’s death in 1888, the company was managed by his son Joseph. The company evolved over the next two decades and became a world-renowned jewelry maker. The Chaumet name was given to the company by Joseph Chaumet, who led the firm until its bankruptcy in 1928. In the years that followed, the company experienced heavy losses in diamond buying and reselling.

In 1812, the company moved to the Place Vendome. Its first store was located here. After a brief period of disrepair, the company sold itself to the LVMH Group. In 1999, the company merged with the LVMH Group. The brand’s boutiques and high jewelry workshops remain in the Place Vendome. There, jewelry designers continue to craft exquisite pieces that represent both style and elegance.

The maison has a history of 240 years. The brand has branched out into other areas and developed its own style of high jewelry. Its boutique in Place Vendome was conceived as a chic Paris apartment. Its salons celebrate the arts and culture. Chopin’s salon was even classified as a historic monument. It now serves as the high jewelry workshop for the Maison.

The museum also hosts special exhibitions. The “Le Grand Frisson” exhibition took place between October and November 2008 and featured 150 pieces of jewellery inspired by love, friendship, and libertinism. In addition, the museum celebrated the bicentenary of Napoleon’s coronation. It also featured jewellery from Napoleon and his wife, Josephine.
