Chaumet Jeux De Liens Heart Necklace in White Gold and Diamonds 30979

The Chaumet jewelry house was founded in 1847 and has grown to international proportions. In addition to its traditional collections of jewelry, Chaumet now offers leather goods, perfumery, and watchmaking. Though the company has expanded its ranges, it has retained its simple visual identity and balance between modernity and classicism. The hallmark of Chaumet jewelry is the absence of over-communication and the ability to make its products stand out from the crowd.

Chaumet was founded by Marie-Etienne Nitot

The House of Chaumet was founded in 1780 by Marie-Etienne Nitot, a Paris-based jeweller. She served the nobility of Paris and fashioned coronation jewels for Napoleon and the French royal family. She became an expert in 18th-century European jewelry and became a court jeweler to the Emperor.

Since its founding, Chaumet has maintained a prestigious place in Paris. The company is headquartered at 12 Vendome, which is one of the most iconic addresses in Paris. The company has always focused on blending style, elegance and originality in its creations.

Chaumet was founded in 1780 by Marie-Etienne Nitot, who was an apprentice to the famous jeweler Aubert. Nitot survived the French Revolution and became the official jeweler of the French monarchs, including the Empress Josephine and the Elector Napoleon. In the 1820s, Nitot worked with Napoleon Bonaparte, and his tiara was worn by the Empress Josephine.

Nitot’s son sold the business to the Fossin family, which found favor with the new royal family. In 1848, a branch of Chaumet was opened in London. The British Queen Victoria patronized Chaumet jewels. In 1907, the Chaumet house moved to 12, place Vendome and then to Hotel Baudard de Saint-James.

The company became famous for its naturalistic jewels. The designers took inspiration from the rich and diverse flora and fauna. The company also created beautiful head pieces. Its bandeaux, tiaras and aigrettes became very popular.

In 1780, Marie-Etienne Nitot established her own jewellery business in Paris. She had previously worked for Aubert, a jeweller to Queen Marie-Antoinette. Her son, Francois-Regnault, became an official jeweller to Napoleon I and the French Royal Family. The jeweller also created wedding jewels for Napoleon’s wife, Marie Louise. After Napoleon’s death, the firm was purchased by Jean-Baptiste Fossin.
