Cartier’s golden years

The golden years of Cartier were an exceptional time in the company’s history. Founder Louis-Francois Cartier was born into poverty and began his eponymous empire in 1847. He took over the workshop of Adolphe Picard, his former assistant, and soon was designing jewelry for aristocratic figures and royalty. Princess Mathilde Bonaparte, niece of Napoleon Bonaparte, wore Cartier jewelry.

After meeting with the Iroquoians at Stadacona, Cartier decided not to settle at this location. He instead sailed a few kilometres upriver to Cap-Rouge. There, he brought with him convicts and set them loose on the land, planting them with vegetables and cabbage seeds. In the process, he created a fortified settlement, which he named Charlesbourg-Royal.

During this period, Cartier became the official jeweler to fifteen royal households. The era of Cartier’s golden years is exemplified by many objects and pieces on display at its showrooms. The jewelry company still owns a large collection of its own work, and often mounts exhibitions to display its exquisite pieces.

Cartier’s encounters with aboriginal people in Canada were brief, but significant. He traded with them, and even managed to capture two of their chiefs. This led to an uneasy relationship. The relationship between Cartier and the First Nations people was strained, and Cartier was forced to leave the New World to return to France.

Cartier also gained a greater social status after his marriage to Catherine. Because she was of a higher class than Cartier, the marriage gave him a boost in his social standing. He could now travel to Europe to see his heritage and work for better opportunities. And even if he did not visit France, he continued to make purchases from Cartier.

In addition to the classic designs, Cartier also introduced the first watch with diamonds and onyx. It was the first time that a diamond-and-onyx combination featured a skin-like pattern. This motif soon became popular across Europe and was often used for interior decor. In 1917, Louis Cartier created the first fully representational panther piece for the fashion designer Jeanne Toussaint. This woman was in charge of the haute joaillerie department at Cartier.

Cartier’s Tutti Frutti collection

Cartier’s Tutti Frutti collection is one of the most iconic jewellery collections in the world. It is known for its brightly coloured gemstones and striking carved patterns. This jewellery style was first created in 1901 when the Danish princess Alexandra commissioned the famous jeweller to design jewellery inspired by Indian culture. Alexandra had received several Indian gowns from the wife of the Viceroy of India, and commissioned Cartier to create jewels that matched her outfits. This is thought to be the first example of the ‘Tutti Frutti’ design.

The Tutti Frutti style was initially referred to as “Hindu” in the 1960s, but it became synonymous with Cartier’s jewellery designs and was patented in 1989. This style continues to inspire Cartier’s High Jewellery collections today. In addition to the vibrant colors and designs, these pieces are made of the finest materials, including platinum and diamonds.

The prices for Cartier’s Tutti Frutti jewels range from a few hundred dollars to several million dollars. Bracelets are not cheap, however, and the average price for a Cartier Tutti Frutti bracelet is $8,000-$750,000. These prices are indicative of the rarity of the pieces and the high demand of these pieces.

Cartier’s Tutti Frutti collection was produced in a number of different forms, but bracelets were most prized. The jewels were cut in a Moghul style, and each one is unique. The bracelet in the present example is particularly striking, as it features rubies throughout its design. It is fastened with a diamond clasp and features onyx triangles and chevron-shaped closures.

Jacques Cartier’s tutti Frutti collection was developed after his 1911 trip to India, where he was inspired by the rich, vibrant colours and intricate carvings of Indian gems. This inspired him to further refine the tutti Frutti design in France. The focus of the tutti Frutti design was to highlight the rich colours of the gemstones. As such, the Tutti Frutti collection was cheaper than many of Cartier’s other collections.

The diamonds on Cartier’s Tank watch sell for an average of $13,589 on 1stDibs. At the higher end, they can fetch as much as $78,500. Cartier’s Tank watch is a classic example of luxury jewelry. Its design makes it a timeless piece.
